New steel panel facility in Brigham City opens, set to create 60 manufacturing jobs | Local News | hjnews.com

A new 127,000-square-foot manufacturing facility opened on Tuesday, April 16 in Brigham City. The Nucor Corp. facility, and their subsidiary, Metl-Span, will create many manufacturing jobs in the area.

The $35 million facility will be used to manufacture insulated metal panels for construction. The panels feature an insulating foam core that is chemically bonded to metal sheets on both sides to create a lightweight but durable and rigid panel. The panels can be used as walls or roofing panels for warehouses, distribution centers or other buildings.

To create the panels at the new facility, the insulating foam is applied to long metal sheets in a liquid form. It then chemically bonds to the metal as it dries and expands to be a few inches thick. The panels are then cut to the desired length, packaged and prepared for shipping.

The insulated metal panels help to reduce energy usage over traditional panels or warehouse walling.

Nucor Corporation has been a member of Brigham City for over 40 years and also has facilities in the area that manufacture grating, metal buildings, cold finished steel bar products, steel mesh and more.

Brad Ford, Nucor’s executive vice president of fabricated construction products, said that Nucor has found a home in Utah and Brigham City. In total, Nucor has created about 1,600 jobs in Utah.

“We’ve found a home here in Utah, specifically in Brigham,” Ford said. “Utah is an absolutely important part in Nucor’s history, and Nucor’s future.”

The new facility will create approximately 60 new high quality manufacturing jobs in the Brigham City area, according to Nucor Corporation.

The facility was dedicated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony April 16 that saw speeches from Nucor Corporation, Brigham City locals and Utah House of Representatives member Thomas Peterson.

Ford said that Nucor Corporation is committed to Utah and the Brigham City area and will continue to grow in the area.

“Our commitment to growing in this area is clear with this new, unbelievable facility,” Ford said. “And we expect to continue to grow.”

Nucor Corporation is North America’s largest steel producer and recycler. It produces steel in a sustainable way by recycling scrap metal in electric arc furnaces. The company generated $34.7 billion in net revenue in 2023.
